The Drum Major Ideology

Two months before his assassination on April 4th, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered a sermon entitled The Drum Major. Now, nearly 53 years later, it still has great relevance.

Dr. King spoke about the desire of some to have superiority over others and about how such a desire can wound souls and destroy communities. Dr. King spoke of the hopes of the disenfranchised and the need for personal reflection and responsibility. With the current socio-political climate, one might wonder if there is any hope for a truly united nation.

Let’s explore ways forward as a community.
